How Solar Works
Solar can feel complicated, but the basic idea is simple: your roof turns sunlight into electricity your home can use. Here is the flow, step by step no sales pressure, just how it works.
Sunlight to Electricity, in Five Steps
Solar Panels
Solar panels absorb sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. More sun and roof area generally means more potential production.
Inverters
An inverter converts that DC electricity into alternating current (AC) the type of electricity your home and the grid use.
Your Home Uses the Electricity
Your home draws on the electricity your system produces first, helping supply the energy your home needs throughout the day.
Excess Production & the Grid
When your system produces more than your home is using at that moment, the extra electricity flows out to the utility grid and in New Jersey, that is where net metering comes in.
Monitoring
Most modern systems include monitoring, so you can see how much your system is producing over time and confirm it is working as expected.
